A pumpkin as heavy as a car takes the world record — again

Ron Wallace has done it three times now. At the Southern New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Warren, Rhode Island, on October 10, his pumpkin tipped the scales at 3,156 pounds — about as much as a midsize car, and 300 pounds beyond the record a British grower, Ian Paton, had set just a week earlier. Guinness World Records calls two record-breaking pumpkins in a single week almost unheard of. Wallace first broke the record in 2006 with the first pumpkin over 1,500 pounds, then again in 2012 with the first over 2,000.

The upbeat factortwenty years of patience, science and giant seeds — and the record is his again.
