A San Jose teen's podcast about memory — and his great-grandfather's fries — just won NPR's national prize

Amit Biligiri, a junior at Evergreen Valley High School in San Jose, took top honors in NPR's eighth annual Student Podcast Challenge, beating some 1,500 entrants. His winning entry, "What Happens to Memories," grew out of a friendly fight with his mom about his late nights — and a vivid childhood memory of sharing fries with his great-grandfather, known as Scooter Muttha, at a Burger King in Bangalore. His mom, an avid NPR listener, had urged him to explore the question for the contest.
