A 'smart bomb' plus an energy cut-off: a two-front attack on the toughest breast cancer
Triple-negative breast cancer is among the hardest forms to treat. Researchers at Ohio State's Comprehensive Cancer Center paired two ideas: a targeted drug that delivers its payload directly to cancer cells — a 'smart bomb' — and a second treatment that shuts down the cells' energy factories. In preclinical studies published in Cell Reports Medicine, the combination killed cancer cells, slowed tumour growth and limited spread. It is an early step, the team stresses, but it maps a vulnerability this cancer had been hiding.
The upbeat factorhit the cancer and cut its power at the same time — a pincer movement designed in the lab.
