A special-needs school just out-designed every other school in South Africa
Cape Recife High School — a public school for children with special educational needs in Gqeberha — beat more than 140 schools to win Samsung's Solve for Tomorrow 2026 challenge. Their winning prototype turns discarded plastic bottles into sports equipment for kids, designed to keep children off the streets. The top prize: R100,000 (about $5,900) in science and technology equipment for the school. This year's contest drew 143 entries, more than triple the previous high of 43.
