A subsidy-free solar plant switches on in South Bohemia
In Dynín, South Bohemia, 51,636 solar panels mounted on trackers that follow the sun have started work. Austria's Enery has commissioned the 37-megawatt Stella plant — its first in Czechia built entirely from the ground up — with no investment subsidies at all. Instead, a long-term power purchase agreement with German industrial group BENTELER, which buys the electricity, made the numbers work. The plant is expected to generate 47.2 gigawatt-hours a year, powering industry directly from a Czech field. It is a quiet kind of milestone: solar so cost-competitive that a factory's electricity bill, not a government grant, carries the project.
