A vaccine-style shot at lung cancer nearly doubles one-year survival in a mid-stage trial
For people whose advanced lung cancer has kept growing after first treatment, a French company, OSE Immunotherapeutics, has reported encouraging mid-stage results. Its therapeutic vaccine Tedopi — designed to train the immune system to recognise cancer cells — was tested in 106 patients across France, Italy and Spain, combined with either chemotherapy or the immunotherapy nivolumab. One year on, 47% of patients on the Tedopi-plus-chemotherapy combination and 46% on Tedopi-plus-nivolumab were alive, against 29% on chemotherapy alone, with no unexpected safety problems. Lead investigator Federico Cappuzzo will present the full results at the ESMO congress in Madrid on 25 October. It is a phase 2 trial, not a proven treatment — but the gap is wide enough to matter.
