A 'well of friendship' ended the school-day water run for 253 Ghanaian students
A borehole funded by $7,000 raised by students at Eastside Catholic school in Washington now supplies clean water to Sekoti Junior High School in Ghana, where girls had been spending their days hauling unclean water instead of attending class. The headmaster reports attendance has surged, 100% of students recently passed their high school entrance exams and qualified for placement, and the 253-student school expects at least 161 new pupils this fall. The donors also sent 10 soccer balls, notebooks and writing supplies, and four laptops so students can learn computing hands-on for the first time.
The upbeat factorWarmth: students on one continent gave students on another their school days back.
