A whistle, a shirt, and 1 hour 47 minutes: a Leeds man ran a half marathon in a referee kit — for his eighth world record

Matthew Akpan, 37, crossed the Great North Run finish line in 1 hour 47 minutes in a full football referee kit — 28 minutes faster than the 2:15 target Guinness set — for his eighth world record in six years. Diagnosed with Asperger's in 2013, he runs each record as a tribute to his late father and to raise money for the National Autistic Society. His message: "No matter what label or what condition you have, you can be measured to anyone else in the world."
