A white whale calf named Mahina just won the world over — and the World Nature Photography Awards

The 2026 World Nature Photography Awards are out, with thousands of entries from 51 countries — and Australian photographer Jono Allen took the top prize for a rare white humpback whale calf, Mahina, sharing what he called "one of the most extraordinary days I have ever experienced in the ocean" with her protective mother. Other winners: a gorilla staring at a butterfly, a moose that looks like it's saying "a little to the left please!", a barn owl swooping with talons out, and a polar bear cub bear-hug.
