A year on the drug, and the scars are fading

For people living with cutaneous lupus, clear skin has long been a near-mythical goal — the disease scars and disfigures, and nothing approved truly stops it. Biogen's 52-week data from its AMETHYST study, presented this week at the dermatology congress in Vienna, moved the needle again: 27.2% of participants reached clear or almost clear skin, up from 19% at week 24, and even patients who switched from placebo saw improvement within four weeks. No new safety flags. The FDA granted litifilimab Breakthrough Therapy designation in January; Phase 3 results land in the first half of 2027.
