Africa's regions learn to pitch together: US$3.2 billion in deals traced to one investment network
Provinces and states rarely get a seat at the big-money table — so African regions built their own. The African Sub-Sovereign Governments Network, convened by Afreximbank, says its first five gatherings have facilitated more than US$3.2 billion in investment opportunities, from a US$40 million medicines plant planned in Kisumu, Kenya, to port and industrial projects in Nigeria and South Africa. Its sixth conference, in Calabar, Nigeria, will focus less on speeches and more on turning regional projects into bankable deals with training, preparation workshops and direct investor rooms.
