After 28 years of walking, one man finally steps back onto home soil

Karl Bushby, 57, a former paratrooper, set out from Chile on November 1, 1998 with two rules: no transport, no early return home. On October 5 he waded ashore at Shakespeare beach in Dover after swimming the English Channel over three days — France forbids France-to-UK crossings and Eurotunnel denied tunnel access — completing the last ocean gap of his unbroken walk around the world. He now has about 250 miles left to reach his 75-year-old mother's house in Hull, and he hasn't seen her since 2015.

The upbeat factor28 years of stubborn, one-foot-in-front-of-the-other faith in a promise kept to himself.
