After 57 years of waiting, Milwaukee's Brewers are World Series champions at last

Milwaukee has waited a very long time for this night. The Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, to win the World Series four games to one — the first championship in the club's history, in its 58th season and its first World Series appearance since 1982. Pitcher Jacob Misiorowski threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings before a calf cramp ended his night, and catcher William Contreras — who batted .381 across the series — was named World Series MVP. Rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt, 22, drove in the first run and set a World Series record for a rookie with hits in six straight at-bats. Milwaukee is baseball's smallest market, with a payroll in the bottom half of the league — and, at last, its team is on top.
