Alien weather, confirmed: water clouds that thicken and thin on another world
Astronomer Brittany Miles of the University of Arizona spent 11 hours with the James Webb Space Telescope taking a spectrum of WISE 0855 — the coldest known brown dwarf, 7.5 light-years away, colder than Earth's surface and about twice Jupiter's mass — every 15 minutes. The result, published in The Astrophysical Journal: the first direct confirmation that water clouds on another world grow thicker and thinner over time. Deep gases churn upward too — alien weather, measured.
The upbeat factor7.5 light-years away, it is cloudy with a chance of wonder.
