Almost half a million UK workers are getting a real pay rise — because their employers chose to give one
Nobody ordered this pay rise, which is exactly what makes it heartening. The real Living Wage — a voluntary rate worked out from the actual cost of living — rises to £14.10 (about $19) an hour across the UK and £15.45 (about $21) in London, in the scheme's 25th anniversary year. Close to 17,000 employers have signed up to pay it to everyone over 18, so almost half a million workers will see the increase land in their pay packets, with employers asked to apply it as soon as they can.
The upbeat factorhundreds of thousands of pay rises, given freely because the maths of a decent life demanded it.
