An artificial synapse that sips energy: IIT Guwahati's brain-inspired chip uses 500 times less
Inspired by how the brain sees, stores and learns all at once, researchers at IIT Guwahati and IIT Kharagpur have built an ultrathin, light-sensitive device that senses, remembers and processes images in a single unit. Published in the journal Carbon, the work found the device used about 500 times less energy than conventional equivalents, while recognising faces with 90% accuracy in lab tests.
The upbeat factorcomputing that borrows the brain's best trick — doing more with far less.
