An injection that could spare skin-cancer patients the knife

For the most common skin cancer — basal cell carcinoma, often on the face and neck — surgery can leave scars. Highlight Therapeutics' experimental treatment BO-112 is injected directly into the tumor, waking up the immune system to attack it. In the largest trial of its kind for high-risk head-and-neck patients, presented at the European dermatology congress in Vienna, the treatment met its main goal. A non-surgical option for one of humanity's most common cancers is a step closer.
