At 50, Mark Kiptoo just obliterated a 35-year-old half-marathon record

Most runners slow down with age. Mark Kosgei Kiptoo politely declined. The 50-year-old Kenyan won the San Sebastián Rural Kutxa Half Marathon in 1:03:57 — smashing the over-50 world record of 1:06:23, set back in 1991, by more than two full minutes. Remarkably, it may not even be his ceiling: at 49, earlier this year, he clocked 1:03:17. Six minutes per mile, at fifty, for thirteen miles. Whatever the calendar says, Kiptoo's legs have their own opinion.
