At 86 and 96, two Tennessee painters take the top prizes — one with a picture painted 50 years ago

Carolyn Carter, 86, started painting at 35, fitting classes around raising her children — and never really stopped. Her oil painting Cindy and Tracy has now won Best Artist at the Morning Pointe Seniors Got Talent art show in Franklin, Tennessee. Beside her, Jean Rosenbaum, 96, took the People's Choice award for Home, an acrylic she painted more than 50 years ago and gave to her mother for Christmas. Her mother kept it on the wall for decades; now a whole theatre of strangers has voted it their favourite too.

The upbeat factorproof that a painting, and a painter, can still be discovered at 96.
