At 92, Normand became a grandfather for the first time — and Guinness says nobody older ever has
Normand Tousignant was 92 years and 24 days old when he first held his granddaughter Madison — the only child of his only child, Kerry. Guinness World Records has now confirmed it: the oldest first-time grandfather in history, six months older than the previous record holder. The certificate was unveiled as a surprise at his 96th birthday party this August, grandfather and granddaughter in matching record-holder T-shirts. Kerry says Madison has 'revitalized' her dad; the family has since moved from the Washington suburbs to Charlotte to be closer. He was a clinical psychologist; his wife Mary Louise wrote for The Washington Post. Their best chapter, it turns out, was still unwritten at 92.
The upbeat factorsome people wait a lifetime for their favourite job — Normand waited 92 years, and says it was worth it.
