At AIIMS New Delhi, AI-assisted endoscopy will be put to a proper clinical test for early stomach and gut cancers

Cancers of the upper digestive tract are often caught late because the earliest changes are subtle and easy to miss during a routine camera examination (an endoscopy). AIIMS, India's leading public medical institute, has begun a formal clinical study of AI-assisted endoscopy — software that helps doctors spot abnormal areas in real time — supported through FUJIFILM India's social-responsibility programme. 'Early diagnosis remains one of the most important determinants of survival,' says AIIMS Dean of Research Dr Radhika Tandon. The point of the study is evidence: does the AI actually help, in Indian hospitals, before it is rolled out widely?
