Australia bets big on sun and wind: investment decisions pass 5,358 megawatts, a new record
Australia's Clean Energy Regulator figures show final investment decisions for large wind and solar projects reached 5,358 megawatts in the first nine months of 2026, passing the previous full-year record of 4,884 megawatts set in 2018. Solar alone set an annual record at 3.5 gigawatts, and rooftop panels added another 90,042 systems in the September quarter alone. Investment decisions are where a grid actually changes: money committed, projects moving toward construction.
The upbeat factora record year for clean-power decisions, with three months still to spare.
