Bangladesh clears a fast lane for sunshine: cabinet approves the Special Solar Power Installation Act

Bangladesh wants solar panels up faster, and on Monday its cabinet removed a legal bottleneck. Meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the cabinet gave both in-principle and final approval to the draft Special Solar Power Installation Act, 2026 — converting the existing Special Solar Power Ordinance into a permanent act, Cabinet Secretary Dr Nasimul Ghani told reporters. The law is designed to expedite solar installations across the country. Subject to vetting by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division, it now heads to Parliament as a bill — one more step from ordinance to durable law for the country's solar build-out.

The upbeat factorsunshine, given a fast lane in law — fewer bottlenecks between Bangladesh and solar power.
