Bangladesh climbed two places in the world rule-of-law index — among the year's fastest improvers

The World Justice Project's Rule of Law Index 2026 moved Bangladesh up two places to 123rd of 143 countries, with a score of 0.39 out of 1 — and placed it among the 15 fastest-improving countries in the world this year. The index scores the everyday justice ordinary people actually meet: fundamental rights, absence of corruption, open government, and how civil and criminal courts perform. The absolute position is still low, and the report does not pretend otherwise. The honest headline is the direction — measured, year-on-year progress in the rules daily life runs on.

The upbeat factorslow, measurable progress on the unglamorous foundations — courts, rights and clean government — that everything else stands on.
