Bangladesh Open University opens a technical institute on its 34th birthday
Bangladesh Open University was built for the students conventional universities leave out — working people, women, rural learners, anyone studying at a distance and at their own pace. Marking its 34th founding anniversary at its Gazipur campus, the university inaugurated a new Institute of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and presented its first-ever Dean's Awards to nine students for outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate results — including a crest for a postgraduate student from the third-gender community recognised for academic achievement. Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, who opened the celebrations, said the university's purpose goes beyond certificates: developing the potential of people deprived of educational opportunities. The university has grown from a single programme to 55, and its leaders set out plans spanning information technology, artificial intelligence, graphic design and entrepreneurship — skills-first additions to a lifelong-learning mission.
