Bangladesh's first nuclear plant is nearly ready to light up the grid

Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam met Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev in Moscow on October 9 to review the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, with trial grid connection of the first VVER-1200 unit now the focus. Once complete, the 2,400-megawatt plant — Bangladesh's first — would meet roughly 11% of the country's total electricity demand. Commissioning and initial start-up activities for the second unit begin next year.
