BBQs, raffles and a rescue app: South Australia and the NT are throwing a fundraiser for their first responders

This Wednesday, October 28 — National First Responders Day — every Bunnings store across South Australia and the Northern Territory becomes a fundraiser. Rotary Clubs are joining forces with local emergency-service crews and volunteers for a region-wide day of sausage sizzles, raffles and donations, and the crews themselves will be at the stores meeting the public. All proceeds go to the Rotary First Responder Mobile App project, being built by the Rotary Club of Modbury Golden Grove: an app to help police, firefighters, paramedics and rescue crews safely handle emergencies that involve injured or distressed animals — the calls where a frightened animal can turn a rescue dangerous. It is community fundraising aimed at a very practical kind of safety.

The upbeat factortwo states' worth of snags on the barbie, all to keep the people who rescue everyone else a little safer.
