Before the game, the letters: an Ohio State coach wrote to every child in Iowa's hospital

On October 2, Ohio State coach Ryan Day sat down and wrote a personal letter to every patient at the University of Iowa's Stead Family Children's Hospital — ahead of a game against those very Hawkeyes. 'We know you are facing challenges that take real strength,' he wrote, 'you do not have to take on everything at once.' The gesture extends the beloved Hawkeye Wave, the tradition in which the entire stadium turns at the end of the first quarter to wave at the children watching from the hospital windows. Rivalry ends where the hospital window begins.
