Berkeley's students climb again — maths up nine points since 2022

Test results released by the California Department of Education on October 15 carry a quiet, compounding story in Berkeley: 72% of Berkeley Unified students met or exceeded the standard in English language arts, more than five percentage points above 2022, and 67% did so in maths — up one point on last year and nine points since 2022, across grades 3–8 and grade 11. Both figures sit above county and state averages, and the district has now grown steadily for four straight years rather than bouncing in a one-year blip. Behind percentages like these are unglamorous things done consistently — teachers, tutoring, attendance, practice — and thousands of individual children for whom a standard met this year makes next year's work easier to reach.

The upbeat factorfour years of steady climb, not a blip — thousands of kids measurably further ahead than the class of 2022.
