British tennis wins gold for the programme turning women volunteers into leaders
Behind every local tennis club is a volunteer — and in Britain, the people running the sport have not always looked like the people giving their time. The LTA's Inspire for Women Volunteers programme set out to change that, coaching women through workshops on leadership, communication, collaboration and presenting, and showing them the route to county committees, the LTA Council and the Board itself. It is working: of the 28 women in its first two cohorts, 13 have stepped into senior leadership roles, including four seats on the LTA Board. World Tennis has now given the programme its Advantage All Gold Award — its highest honour for gender equality work, and the first gold the LTA has won.
