Côte d'Ivoire's largest solar plant wins global honours before it even switches on

Near Korhogo in northern Côte d'Ivoire, Ivorian entrepreneurs are building Poro Power — a 66-megawatt solar plant that will be the country's largest when it opens in 2027, generating about 136 gigawatt-hours a year, enough for more than 100,000 households and roughly half a million people. In London this month, its financing won ESG Green Bond Deal of the Year for Africa at the Infra Global ESG Awards, and its arranger, the Africa Finance Corporation, took Arranger of the Year. The point judges rewarded: African capital, structured in Africa, building African infrastructure — and a national target of 45% renewable electricity by 2030 to aim at.

The upbeat factorsunshine for half a million people, financed by a structure the world just called the best in Africa.
