Canada's first homegrown satellite is healthy in orbit — built in nine months
Nine months from first sketch to launch readiness. Terra Nova, designed, built and tested entirely in-house by Markham-based NordSpace, has completed its first orbital operations and is healthy in orbit — making NordSpace the first Canadian launch company with its own hardware in space. The satellite carries four company-built systems, including an AI-powered camera that watches for wildfires and monitors the Arctic. Founder Rahul Goel called it a sovereignty milestone: Canadian-made rockets carrying Canadian payloads, one day launching from Canadian soil.
The upbeat factorpride in a country reaching orbit on its own terms.
