Clearer skin for seven in ten: a new psoriasis pill beats placebo in its final-stage trial
Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition in which skin cells multiply far too fast, building itchy, scaly plaques — and for moderate-to-severe cases, options have often meant injections or older immune-suppressing drugs. A new daily pill, nomelcitinib, developed by China's InventisBio, has now passed its biggest test. In a Phase III trial of 391 patients, both dose groups saw more than 70% of patients achieve at least a 90% improvement in their skin scores (a measure called PASI 90) after 16 weeks — significantly better than placebo, with improvement already visible by week 4. The results are company-reported topline figures, the step before regulators review the full data; a head-to-head trial against an existing drug is also under way.
