Croatia gave the Drava river its side channels back — and the terns returned
The DRAVA LIFE project reconnected cut-off side channels along 310 kilometers of Croatia's Drava river, removed old bank reinforcements, and rebuilt gravel habitats. Little terns, sand martins, and pond turtles are breeding again. The project won two national awards and shows how rivers heal when given space.
