Eleven years old, and the youngest grandmaster ever
Bodhana Sivanandan juggles full-time school with chess, and in Samarkand she did her homework in public: 11 rounds on England's top board at the Chess Olympiad, eight points, six wins, draws against two players in the world's top 20 — and the third and final norm for the Woman Grandmaster title. At 11, the Harrow schoolgirl broke a record that had stood for more than two decades. She also picked up her second open International Master norm along the way. Asked about the pressure of facing every opponent's best player, she shrugged: "Not really, I just tried to enjoy it." She wants to keep making history.
