Eunice's cooperative: 210 Malawi farmers, most of them women, learning to thrive in a hotter climate
In Mzimba District, Malawi, Eunice Gondwe farms with the Chindindindi Farmers' Cooperative — 210 members, 120 of them women. Through a joint United Nations programme run by UN Women, the International Labour Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization, cooperative members are being trained in climate-smart farming, adding value to what they grow, and running their businesses in ways that give women a stronger say — alongside village savings and loans that smooth out bad seasons. The point is not a one-off handout: it is steadier harvests, better access to buyers, and households where decisions — and income — are shared more fairly.
