Europe backs 12 clean-tech factories with €895 million (about $1 billion) — batteries, solar and hydrogen included

The European Commission has picked 12 clean-technology factory projects to share almost €895 million (about $1 billion) in Innovation Fund grants. The list includes a battery-cell gigafactory in Sagunto, Spain, planned at up to 27 GWh a year, a 9 GWh battery line in Wrocław, Poland, a 5 GW solar factory in France, and hydrogen and heat-pump projects in Italy, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Sweden and Belgium. The exact grant for each project will be settled in negotiations, but the direction is clear: the factories behind clean energy are being built closer to home.

The upbeat factorthe energy transition runs on factories — and a dozen more just got the money to exist.
