Every Delhi government school is getting a first-aid room — 1,086 schools, ₹48.87 crore (about $5.1 million) a year
A child who feels dizzy in a Delhi classroom will soon have somewhere proper to go. The Delhi government will set up first-aid medical rooms in all 1,086 of its Directorate of Education schools, at an estimated annual cost of Rs 48.87 crore (about $5.1 million), Education Minister Ashish Sood announced on Sunday. Each room will be staffed by a trained health worker — an auxiliary nurse midwife or multipurpose health worker — offering wound dressing, oral rehydration salts and a quiet place to rest and recover, with a private space where girl students can manage menstrual health needs with dignity. The rooms will not diagnose or prescribe; they exist so that minor injuries and sudden illness are handled quickly, safely and on campus. Rollout is phased, starting with schools that already have a suitable room.
