Five days, not six: Brazil votes its workers their evenings back
For millions of Brazilians, Saturday has long been a workday. That is about to change. Brazil's Senate has approved a constitutional amendment cutting the standard week from 44 hours to 40 — from six days to five — in the biggest overhaul of the country's labour rights in decades. Lawmakers from across the political divide backed it, and the government estimates more than 37 million formal workers will gain time to rest, be with family and watch their children grow. The new standard phases in over 14 months.
The upbeat factor37 million people are getting a day of their lives back, every single week.
