Five hundred palmyra seeds, twenty students, one greener airport road

The road to Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport is a gateway — and on 17 October it got a little greener. About 20 student volunteers from the Asian University for Women joined Chattogram City Corporation officials in Patenga to plant 500 palmyra palm seeds and date palms along the corridor, under the university's Green Bangle Project. Their message was simple: 'Plant trees, protect the city.' Palmyra researcher Dr Mosae Selvakumar Paulraj, who leads environmental science at the university, joined city officials including deputy secretary Pronoy Chakma, who pointed to plantation as part of building a clean, safe and healthy city as warming and changing weather press harder on coastal Chattogram. Small numbers, honestly counted — 500 seeds, 20 pairs of hands — and exactly how urban forests actually begin.

The upbeat factorevery future traveller into Chattogram will drive past trees these students planted by hand.
