Five red wolf pups fly home to New York with volunteer pilots

Red wolves Caroline and Jacques returned to the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, New York this week — bringing their five six-month-old pups, Cane, Champ, Puck, Stormy and Whaler, thanks to volunteer pilots who flew the family for free. With fewer than 21 red wolves left in the wild, carefully planned moves like this between conservation centres are how the species' recovery programme keeps its bloodlines strong.

The upbeat factorfive wolf pups got a free flight home, and a species on the brink got new hope.
