Food, movement, no medication: over half of younger diabetes patients reached remission in one trial
A randomised trial across centres in England and Canada — including McGill University in Montreal and the University of Alberta, co-led by McGill's Kaberi Dasgupta — tested an 800–900-calorie-a-day diet combined with structured exercise in 96 adults aged 18 to 45 with early-onset type 2 diabetes. After 24 weeks, 54% of the diet-and-exercise group were in remission — blood sugar below the diabetes threshold without medication for at least three months — versus 4% with standard care, and participants preserved muscle mass while losing an average of 7.5 kg more than the comparison group. The work was published in The Lancet Regional Health Americas.
The upbeat factora demanding but medication-free path reversed a fast-progressing disease in over half of those who took it.
