From 35% to 58%: Sri Lanka's financial literacy leap, rung in at the stock exchange's 40th
Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya had a number to celebrate at the Colombo Stock Exchange's 40th anniversary on October 5: Sri Lanka's financial literacy has climbed from 35% to 58%. Ringing the opening bell at the World Trade Centre, she tied the gain to a simple goal - no citizen left guessing about money. The next step reaches children: a new 'Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy' subject for grades 6 to 9, a 'Stock Market Game' for students, and 13 CSE branches carrying money knowledge across the island. 'Don't wait for opportunities; seek them out, create new ones,' she told the youth.
The upbeat factorA country that understands money is a country that can build with it.
