From a climate copilot for Bangladesh to wildfire alerts in Tanzania: UN names 5 AI finalists
The UNFCCC has named the five finalists of the 2026 AI for Climate Action Award: Bangladesh's Climate Action Copilot, led by a team associated with Faria Islam Sara, which uses AI and geospatial data to identify climate-vulnerable communities; Indonesia's Ai-Moris for precision reforestation; Tanzania's FirePredict and CLIMAID for wildfire and drought warnings; and Mali's ClimateVoice AI for climate alerts in local languages. The finalists present at the AI for Climate Action Forum on October 13–14 at the Shangri-La Phnom Penh in Cambodia, where the winner will be announced on October 14. The 2025 edition drew more than 600 submissions from 110 countries.
