Ghana is rehearsing for the next emergency before it arrives
No crisis, no cameras — just preparation. With support from the Africa CDC, Ghana ran training on the five core jobs of a Public Health Emergency Operations Centre: command, operations, planning, logistics, and finance and administration. The sessions covered emergency planning, managing resources, situation reports, standard procedures, and full simulation exercises — practice runs so that when a real outbreak or disaster hits, the team already knows its moves. The Africa CDC's West Africa centre also pledged to help Ghana update its emergency plans and deepen staffing and surge capacity. It's the least glamorous kind of heroism: drilling for a day you hope never comes.
