Ghana puts breast screening into free primary care — just in time for Pink October
For years, Ghanaian companies have painted October pink. Now there is substance behind the symbolism: in 2026, breast screening entered the national free primary healthcare package, so cost stops being the reason women skip the check that catches cancer early. A Jhpiego project has already screened more than 80,000 people and guided over 1,900 toward further diagnosis, and MTN Ghana's Y'ello Ladies raised GH¢100,000 (about $8,500) for breast-cancer education and treatment. With roughly 4,650 new cases a year and 70% arriving at late stages, free screening is aimed squarely at that gap.
The upbeat factorhope — the checkup that saves lives no longer depends on a woman's wallet.
