Ghana's new renewable plan aims at $10.8 billion of investment — and 440 mini-grids for rural communities
Ghana's updated Renewable Energy Master Plan for 2026–2030 is already drawing investor interest, the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition says. The five-year plan targets $10.8 billion in investment — nearly double the previous plan — including 852 megawatts of utility-scale solar, 709 megawatts of wind, 127 megawatts of hydropower and 440 mini-grids for rural and island communities, plus 1.1 million solar lanterns. Developers are already positioning projects; one long-standing wind developer received renewed environmental permits for six coastal sites in October. A plan is not a power station — but permits, targets and investor queues are how power stations start.
