Glasgow says a hundred thousand thanks as the record-breaking Mòd closes
Nine days, 16 venues, about 300 competitions and events — and at the end, hundreds of singers filling Buchanan Street for the Massed Choirs finale. The 2026 Royal National Mòd, Scotland's great festival of Gaelic language, music and arts, closed in Glasgow with estimated attendances of 11,500, up 20% on last year, and a record number of competitors. Organisers expect it to beat last year's £3.9 million (about $5.3 million) economic impact. The Mòd flag now passes to the Western Isles for 2027 — a language kept alive by being sung, loudly, in the street.
The upbeat factora minority language, sung by hundreds in the middle of Glasgow, is not fading — it is growing.
