Guimarães opened its year as Europe's Green Capital

The Portuguese city launched its 2026 European Green Capital year with a pledge to go climate neutral by 2030. Guimarães won the title for making sustainability part of its culture — clean air, green spaces, and circular economy woven into daily life.
