He built his own arm from LEGO at nine. Now he builds them for other children

David Aguilar was born with a right forearm that never fully developed, so at nine years old he did what any determined child with a toy box might dream of: he built himself a prosthetic arm from LEGO bricks. By 18 his design had become the first functional LEGO prosthetic arm, earning a world record. Now 26 and on his fifth version — fully motorised, with fingers he steers through small movements of his arm — the Andorran inventor, nicknamed Hand Solo, builds arms for others too, including one he made for eight-year-old Beknur in Kazakhstan, and has even spoken at NASA.

The upbeat factorthe boy who solved his own problem grew up and started solving it for everyone else.
